Our Story

Browning Lumber & Hardware has been a cornerstone of the Browning community for over 55 years. The store first opened its doors in 1971, when Rod and Mardean Bartleson purchased it and began building a place where neighbors could count on getting what they needed without driving 100 miles to the nearest big-box store.

The Bartlesons’ son, Neal, moved back to Browning in 2014 and took over the family business, purchasing the store outright in 2018. In 2023, Browning Lumber joined the Do It Best hardware cooperative, a partnership that brought expanded inventory and competitive pricing, all while keeping the small-town, friendly feel that this community has always known and loved.
